OUR MISSION: CONNECTING CIVICS AND HISTORY
The Civics Center is a national teacher resource center that promotes cross-curricular civics education in middle and high schools. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of the 21st century classroom, offering multimedia lessons and multiple-intelligence methodologies that teach students how our democratic institutions work while fostering students’ participation in community and government essential to our nation’s future.

FEATURED PRODUCT

We enter our classrooms as teachers perhaps of specific subjects – Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, even Religion. But for all of us, among our most important objectives is to help our students understand that they were born with many rights – and bear many responsibilities – as part this great nation.

How do we know that our students will graduate to become well-prepared citizens who can participate in their communities, make educated decisions, and help shape their world?

Service learning is a teaching methodology that offers teachers across the curriculum a powerful opportunity to bring learning to life. As Sen. John Glenn said, “Service learning is civics in action.”

The following links offer examples of various programs that provide students powerful opportunities to employ what we like to call The 3 C’s of Civics Education – Competence, Confidence and Caring. We hope you find the information useful. If you would like to suggest the inclusion of additional links, please email our Programs Office.
